How to play Hangman

Hangman is a word-guessing game. A hidden word is shown as blanks and you guess it one letter at a time. Every correct letter is filled in; every wrong one adds a stroke to the drawing. Work out the word before the drawing is finished.

Pick a category (animals, countries, food, sports or jobs) or leave it on Any for a surprise. Easy allows ten mistakes, Normal eight and Hard six. For two players, choose Set a word and type a secret word for a friend to guess.

Hangman rules

• A secret word is shown as a row of blanks.
• Guess one letter at a time; correct letters appear in every position they occupy.
• Each wrong letter adds a stroke to the drawing.
• You win by revealing the whole word before the drawing is complete.
• A hint reveals a letter but costs one mistake.
