How to play Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe, also known as noughts and crosses or Xs and Os, is played on a 3×3 grid. Players take turns placing their mark, and the first to line up three in a row, column or diagonal wins. If all nine squares fill up first, it is a draw.

Play the computer on Easy, Medium or Unbeatable, or choose 2 players to share one device with a friend. X always moves first, so pick O if you want the computer to open. The scoreboard keeps a running tally for each opponent.

Tic-Tac-Toe questions

Can you beat the Unbeatable computer?

No. It searches every possible game, so the best you can do is a draw. Easy and Medium make mistakes you can punish.

What is the best first move in Tic-Tac-Toe?

A corner. It gives the opponent the most chances to go wrong; the centre is the safest reply.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes. Choose 2 players as the opponent and take turns on the same screen.
